Narrative Theory:

All media texts us some kind of story.

Question 9 "The media effects debate, is an outdated concept." Discuss the statement in relation to a media product you have studied. Use examples to support your answer. 


Debate/Discuss - Two different sides with opposing views. Argue for and against how it reinforces and challenges this statement.

Media effects - Hypodermic Syringe Adorno/Packard (1979) for. 'Filter and adapt' Gauntlett (1995) against. 


Media product you have studied - Sherlock, God of War Ragnarok, Elden Ring, Parasyte the Maxim. 


PATTERNS OF MEDIA REGULATIONS QUESTIONS

Features a quote/ statement - e.g., media effects debate - looking at how media products have a negative impact on audiences.

C          Coined in the 1960's therefore already showing it is an outdated theory/debate.

           Stanley Cohen's theory of "Moral Panic" (1972.) This theory is still relevant even to our contemporary media products as 'Moral Panic' is still very prevalent.

An         Answer could start with passive audience theorist discussion as the statement is negative. 

Active audience theory could be used to argue the question. 

Also     talk about regulation and regulators. As you can write about why a media product is a certain rating and what the effect it has on the audience. As well as this we could see if the regulators are stricter or softer (but they have become stricter since the 60's.)

Able    to talk about social media in the question because it is hard to fully regulate and anyone can post anything.
